From what I understand, you already told him you are developing some feelings for him before this whole accident happened and he said, he is not there just yet. I think you should leave it at that. You can be close, spend time together, have a deep friendship but personally, the only thing I would do is remind him that the ball is in his court now and if he ever feels ready to be together, then we can take it from there.
