What is the most important question for political ecology?
The most important question for political ecology is what are the boundaries or scope of analysis. This holds true for both the political/economic and ecological aspects of political ecology. For instance, when we think about political-economics are we thinking about our local politics, our region, our nation, or our world. Likewise when thinking about ecology are we thinking about greenhouse gases only or also about water depletion, solid waste creation, resource depletion, and so on. Many wrongheaded decisions are the result of too narrow a boundary or scope. Our goal should be to make decisions on the widest possible boundary or scope.
