Do Wolverine's recuperative powers make him somewhat predictable?

i guess this question is related to the marvel character as well as hugh jackman's movie character, but since wolverine seems to heal so quickly from all of hs wounds, what's the point? i was watching blade the other night and it seemed like he had to at least rest for a night before he healed up. and i was watching achilles in troy and you always kind of felt his vulnerability with his ankles, and as you know from the movie, he still used his shield.
